Tall or Long Mandan was chief of the Two Kettles Sioux. He was born in 1804 and part of the Eat No Dog band. He was an important leader who signed the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty for the Two Kettle, Brule' and Hunkpapa bands. The calumet pipe he used at the signing is still owned by the family. Both sides of the large pipe bag held at the signing is shown below.
Tall Mandan was the principle person to bring harmony to the Brule' Sioux after Crow Dog shot and killed Chief Spotted Tail. The long, fringed medicine bag of Tall Mandan is shown in another article. These came from the Lee Deloria family from the Rosebud reservation, heirs of Tall Mandan.
